Built Heritage - Fire Loss to Historic Buildings

Fire test at Trondheim COST Meeting of April 2004

The number, authenticity and quality of European historic buildings are being steadily eroded through the effects of fire in addition to associated levels of life loss. During the last 15 years a series of major European heritage fire losses have occurred, and in Scotland alone one important historic building is being lost each month. Appropriate steps need to be taken to reduce this unacceptable level of destruction. As part of this process, Ingval Maxwell, Director TCRE, Historic Scotland, has initiated and chairs this COST Action. The main objective of the Action is the definition at European level of the degree of loss to the Built Heritage to the effects of fire and for the proposal of remedial actions and recommendations to combat such loss, using minimal invasive techniques.
